Carrie started Cedar Lane Farm in 2009. Her operation is located in Cummings, Kansas. At a young age Carrie was drawn to plants and flowers and loved helping in the family garden.
In high school she got involved in a FFA project starting tomato and pepper plants from seed and selling them retail, this really sparked her desire to pursue a degree in Horticulture. At Kansas State University she focused on Greenhouse Management and producing potted plants. After taking a Vegetable and Fruit production class she knew that's what she wanted to do, but organically. However, there was not much emphasis in organic at the time in her college courses. When she started exploring career options she ran across the Northeast Organic Farming Association on the college's website linking students with farms in the northeast that hosted apprentices. So after graduating she ventured off to Massachusetts' Pioneer Valley, a hotbed of local organic vegetable farms. Here she apprenticed two seasons at Red Fire Farm in Granby, MA a large scale certified organic
produce operation providing food for the Boston suburbs and the local Amherst area.
The vibrancy of local organic food production and her love for growing inspired Carrie to move back home to Kansas and start her own produce operation. She has been a vendor at the Atchison Farmers Market since her first season moving back in 2009. She strives to produce high quality organic produce for her customers and enjoys being part of the community. It is fun to get to know customers and have those connections.
